Christians have sometimes been pretty critical of Halloween. Some have raised concerns about the holiday's pagan roots. Sometimes you even hear people call it the devil's day, although the last time I checked, the devil owns no day but rather every day belongs to God.
I have mixed feelings about Halloween. I could do without all the spooky stuff associated with the holiday, but one thing I greatly appreciate about it is the hospitality given to the trick-or-treaters. When else can someone knock on a complete strangers door and be warmly greeted and offered a piece of candy? Only on Halloween.
For that reason it is quite appropriate that some Christians celebrate All Saints Day on the day following Halloween. Because the saints of God are called on to love and welcome their neighbors in the name of Christ.
